For camera crew
Tax help for camera crew.
You move from one production to the next. We'll keep your tax return, your expenses and your deadlines on track.
Sound familiar?
Short contracts, different productions
A few days here, a few weeks there, each with its own paperwork.
Kit and travel
Cameras, lenses, rigs and long trips to location. What can you claim?
Paid in different ways
Some productions pay you as a freelancer, and some put you on their payroll.
You go where the work is.
Camera work rarely follows a fixed pattern. You might be on a feature for months, then a run of commercials, then a few days on a documentary. Some crew own their kit, some hire it in, and plenty do both depending on the job.
We'd like to understand how you work across productions and where you want your career to go. With that picture, we can keep your tax in order between jobs and give advice that suits the way you work.

One useful answer
Can I claim for my kit?
If you buy or hire kit for your work, you can usually claim it. If you also use it for personal things, you claim the work part. We'll keep a record, so you're covered if HMRC ever asks.

Quick questions
Am I self-employed on every production?
Not always. It depends on the role and the contract, and some productions put you on payroll. We'll look at each one with you.
Can I claim travel to location?
You can usually claim travel to a location, like fuel, trains and some overnight stays. We'll check what counts for you.
When is the Self Assessment deadline?
For online returns, it's 31 January after the end of the tax year. We'll remind you well before then.
