Sound familiar?
Booked by the day or the project
Days on one job, weeks on the next, each paid in its own way.
Software and kit
Editing software, a powerful computer, drives and screens. What can you claim?
January sneaks up
You're deep in a final cut, and then the deadline is close.
Every edit suite runs differently.
Some editors work in-house on long projects. Others edit from home, juggling several clients and deadlines at once. You might cut drama, documentaries, adverts or online content, and the way you're booked and paid can change with each one.
We're interested in how your work comes in and the kind of projects you want more of. Understanding that helps us give advice that makes sense for your business as well as your numbers.

One useful answer
Can I claim my editing computer and software?
If you use them for your work, you can usually claim them. If you also use them for personal things, you claim the work part. We'll work out what's fair and keep a record.

Quick questions
Am I self-employed on every job?
Not always. It depends on the role and the contract, and some productions put you on payroll. We'll look at each one with you.
Can I claim my storage and backups?
Hard drives and cloud storage you use for work are usually business costs. We'll add them up for you.
Should I be a sole trader or a limited company?
It depends on how much you earn and your plans. Our free report compares the two for you.
