For engineers

Tax help for engineers.

You design, build and fix things for your clients. We'll take care of your tax.

Sound familiar?

Contract after contract

Different clients and projects, each with its own start and end date.

Tools and safety kit

Tools, software, boots and gear you buy yourself. What can you claim?

Inside or outside IR35?

Every new contract raises the question again.

Engineers build all kinds of businesses.

Some engineers contract on long-term projects. Others take on design work, inspections or consultancy, or run a small firm with a few people of their own. You might work on site, from home or a mix of both, and each brings its own costs and paperwork.

Tell us about the work you take on and how you'd like it to develop. When we know that, we can give advice that fits your business and keep the tax side running smoothly.

What we do for you

We take care of it all.

  • Your tax returns, done and filed

Your own tax return, plus company accounts and Corporation Tax if you work through a limited company.

  • Your expenses, sorted

Your tools, safety kit, software and laptop.

  • Your books on Xero

Invoices and payments in one place, set up and kept tidy.

One useful answer

Can I claim my safety kit and tools?

Safety gear you need for the job, like boots and a hard hat, is usually a business cost. So are tools and software you buy for your work. We'll keep a record, so you're covered if HMRC ever asks.

Quick questions

Does IR35 apply to my contract?

It depends on the contract and how you really work, not on you as a person. We can review it for you, so you know where you stand.

Should I use a limited company or an umbrella?

With an umbrella company, you become its employee and it pays you through payroll. With your own limited company, you run the company. We'll talk through which suits you.

When is the Self Assessment deadline?

For online returns, it's 31 January after the end of the tax year. We'll remind you well before then.

Tell us a bit about your work and we'll take it from there.
